A Wedding Dress and a Land Cruiser: Rehearse the Boarding Before the Day

Try getting into the wedding car before the day, with the outfit's shape and accessories in mind. You need to be able to sit comfortably, close the door and wear the seat belt correctly, as well as look good in the photographs.

Use the actual Land Cruiser where possible and bring the person who will help you board. Check where the skirt gathers, whether the headpiece clears the doorway and how to keep the train away from the step and door while there's still time to adjust the plan.

Prepare for the dress rehearsal

Ask the dressmaker or stylist how to handle the garment for sitting and travel. Some details need particular care, so a general instruction to fold or tuck the fabric may be unsuitable.

If you can't wear the finished dress for the trial, discuss how to approximate its volume and movement. Include the shoes you'll wear and relevant accessories, such as the veil, headpiece or outer layer. Note which parts of the fit you haven't been able to test fully.

Check the exact door opening and seating position proposed for the journey. Another Land Cruiser, a different row or a last-minute replacement may give you a different result.

Park and decide who will help

Ask the provider to park securely on a clean, level surface, away from passing traffic. There should be room to open the chosen door fully and move around it without rushing.

Choose who will handle the garment and who will take the bouquet or bag. Keep assistance manageable, with the person wearing the outfit deciding what help they want.

Have the provider explain the boarding handles and any step fitted to the car. Decorative trim may not be suitable to hold, and a loose stool needs discussion of an appropriate arrangement before use.

If the trial shows that this vehicle doesn't suit you, reconsider it now, before the wedding timetable depends on that car.

Practise the full boarding and arrival

1. Approach the door

Check that you can reach the doorway comfortably without fabric dragging across the step or catching under your shoes. The garment helper needs space to manage the train without standing in your path.

Include whatever you'll carry on the day. If you need the bouquet hand free to board, decide who takes the bouquet and when they'll return it.

2. Enter the cabin

Use a movement that feels comfortable to the wearer and follows any relevant personal guidance they already use. Don't rush, pull on their arms or improvise a lifting technique.

Watch the roofline and doorway as well as the dress. If a tall headpiece or long veil needs a different arrangement, discuss it with the person who prepared it.

3. Settle into a travelling position

Let the wearer arrange the garment according to the dressmaker's advice. Check that they can sit normally with room for their feet and without another passenger sitting on the outfit.

Keep fabric out of the driver's area and clear of the belts for other occupied seats. Change the arrangement if it would require anyone to crouch, perch or travel without a proper seat.

4. Fasten the belt and close the door

Check the seat belt before concluding that the dress fits. NHTSA's adult seat-belt guidance places the lap portion across the hips and the shoulder portion across the chest. The shoulder belt must never go behind the back or under an arm.

Arrange the garment around the correctly worn restraint without inventing a belt modification. If that isn't comfortable, seek appropriate guidance and reconsider the transport or outfit arrangement.

Check that fabric, straps and the veil are clear before closing the door. Never force it against the dress.

5. Practise getting out

Agree who will open the door, receive the bouquet and help with the garment on arrival. Wait for the wearer to say they're ready.

The helper needs a position clear of traffic and the opening door. Rehearse at a suitable stationary location; don't attempt a moving arrival for effect.

Include helpers in the passenger plan

Confirm whether the person assisting with the dress will travel in the same car. They need an actual seat with a usable belt, and their bag needs space in the load plan.

Make transport arrangements for photographers and videographers too. Don't add someone at the last moment on the assumption that they'll squeeze in beside the dress.

Once the passenger plan is clear, compare the actual LC200 options or Prado configurations. Confirm garment fit with the allocated vehicle rather than relying on its model name.

Check the venue arrangements

Agree suitable pickup and arrival points with the venue, including a wet-weather plan. Ask how close the car can get to a covered entrance and whether the ground differs from the rehearsal surface.

Allow time for boarding and garment adjustments in the schedule. Have any protective garment cover ready, use it as intended and remove or stow it appropriately before travelling. Get the provider's permission before adding vehicle decorations or accessories.

Write down the confirmed vehicle and seat, the helper, bouquet handover and both pickup and arrival points. Share those details with the people responsible.

When you confirm the booking with EliteMotion, specify any feature that made the trial successful so the agreed arrangement can be checked against the car allocated for the day.
