Booking a Prado by Specification: The Photos and Details to Request
A TX or TXL badge gives you a starting point when booking a Prado, but it doesn't confirm the car's seating, fuel, luggage room or fitted equipment. Ask the provider to verify the features you need on the vehicle being allocated.
Send a short specification brief with a few targeted photo requests. You'll then have something concrete to check at collection, instead of trying to agree on what counts as “a good Prado.”
Describe the passengers and journey first
Count everyone travelling, including the driver, and mention any child-restraint requirements. Be specific about bags. “Five people including the driver, three suitcases and two daypacks” gives the provider more to work with than “five people with bags.”
Add the route, collection and return arrangements, and whether you need self-drive or a chauffeur. These details help narrow down the vehicle configurations worth considering.
Separate essentials from preferences. Your group might need rear airflow for every occupied row, while a particular upholstery colour is only a preference. Making that distinction helps you assess an alternative if the first choice isn't available.
Check the equipment behind the badge
Toyota specifications vary by market, model year and grade. Toyota's 2018 UK Land Cruiser range, for example, used Utility, Active, Icon and Invincible names with different equipment. There isn't one worldwide trim ladder that lets you infer every feature from a familiar set of letters.
A TXL badge photograph therefore can't confirm the full specification, and an overseas review may describe a different car from the one offered in Kenya. Ask the provider to confirm the actual fuel, seating and transmission, along with the features that affect your trip. There's no need to work through every factory option if only a few matter to your booking.
Ask for photographs that answer your questions
First check whether the images show the proposed car or a representative example of the category. Then ask for the views needed to confirm your brief.
The whole vehicle
A clear exterior view identifies the car being discussed and shows its general appearance. Specify the colour and body style if either matters for an event. The photograph can't establish mechanical condition or every fitted feature.
All the seats you plan to use
Ask for the cabin with the required seats upright. A third row folded away won't tell you much about carrying passengers there. If someone needs to check access, request a short demonstration of reaching the seat while the car is parked.
The boot with those seats still upright
Luggage space needs to be checked in the same seating layout you'll use on the road. Supply bag dimensions if the fit looks close and arrange a loading check. Perspective in a photograph can make it difficult to judge the available space accurately.
Any essential controls or connections
For rear climate controls, charging connections, a camera or another important feature, request a view of the relevant part of the cabin. A visible switch doesn't confirm that the feature works. Test it with the provider at handover.
Fuel and tyre information
Ask the provider to identify the correct fuel and show you where the tyre-pressure information is located. An equipment query shouldn't require circulating full identification documents or unrelated personal information.
An example allocation brief
“We need a Prado for four travellers plus a driver, with two medium suitcases, two soft bags and a camera bag. Please confirm the actual fuel type, seating layout and luggage fit. Rear-seat airflow is important. Please send recent cabin and boot photographs with all required seats upright, and tell us whether these show the proposed car or a representative example.”
Add your dates and agreed route. You can begin with EliteMotion's Prado J150 options, but the individual allocation still needs confirmation.
If you also need a sunroof, diesel engine or seven seats, put that in the brief explicitly. None should be assumed from a trim badge alone.
Before collection
Ask when the exact vehicle will be confirmed and what happens if it changes. If the provider proposes another car, check your essentials again. “Same category” doesn't settle whether its seating, luggage space and equipment meet your requirements, even if it turns out to be a suitable alternative.
Keep the confirmed specification with the booking details and pass it to whoever will collect the car. This helps when an office administrator makes the booking or members of a group divide the arrangements between them.
At collection, check the seats, luggage layout and essential features before departing. Raise any discrepancy while the provider is there to resolve it.
Check the route against the agreement too. EliteMotion's rental terms require approval for material changes. Send the team your specification brief with enough time to resolve a mismatch before collection.
