Lexus LC300 or Toyota Land Cruiser? Untangling the Names

“Lexus LC300” combines names from different vehicle families. The Land Cruiser 300 is a Toyota. Lexus calls its flagship SUV family the LX; its LC is a separate family of luxury cars.

It's an easy mix-up. People shorten Land Cruiser to “LC,” which is also a Lexus model name. Photos of large premium SUVs can add to the confusion, so it helps to settle the name before discussing a rental's dates, price or passenger space.

Which car are you looking for?

Toyota Land Cruiser 300, commonly shortened to LC300, is the Toyota SUV. Lexus LX is a Lexus SUV family with its own versions and equipment. Lexus LC is the luxury coupe family introduced with LC 500 and LC 500h versions.

The manufacturers' announcements use those names consistently. Toyota introduced the Land Cruiser 300 under the Toyota brand, while Lexus describes the LX as its flagship SUV and the LC as a luxury coupe.

Write “Toyota Land Cruiser 300” in your enquiry to avoid leaving the meaning of “LC” open. If you specifically want a Lexus SUV, ask for the Lexus LX and name the version if that's important to you.

The Land Cruiser and LX share some engineering

Toyota's LC300 and the LX unveiled in 2021 use the GA-F platform. That helps explain why they appear together in vehicle discussions and why they may look related.

For a renter, the seats, luggage space, doors, controls and equipment still need to be checked on each car. A shared platform doesn't establish the same passenger layout or experience. It also doesn't give a provider a reason to substitute one for the other without discussing your requirements.

Brand and appearance can matter as much as the practical layout for a wedding, client visit or planned airport collection. A car may carry everyone comfortably and still fail that part of the brief. Tell the provider when a particular brand or look is essential and have it recorded with the booking.

If you're working from a photograph

A large Toyota SUV may be the Toyota Land Cruiser 300. Search using the full name and request recent photographs of the car on offer. When sending your own reference, include a front view and a side or rear view if possible. A close-up of a grille gives the provider much less to work with than a clear view of the whole car.

EliteMotion's Toyota LC300 listing group is a place to start a Toyota enquiry. You'll still need to confirm the individual allocation for your dates.

For a Lexus-branded SUV, ask about the LX, then check the version and seating being offered. A Toyota listing doesn't establish that a Lexus alternative is available. If the provider suggests another model, compare it against the reasons you wanted the Lexus. Where no suitable Lexus is offered, decide before collection whether the brand is essential or another vehicle would meet your needs.

A low, two-door Lexus may be an LC. Send a photograph if you're unsure; adding more numbers to the enquiry may only make identification harder. Include the passenger and luggage requirements too, since liking the appearance doesn't establish that the car will suit your journey.

What to put in the reference message

Give the name you believe is correct, a photograph or listing link, the feature you care about and the practical requirements. For example:

“I mean the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 shown in this link. We need transport for four travellers plus a driver and our luggage. Please confirm the exact vehicle and whether it is available for these dates.”

You can also be direct about uncertainty: “I like this vehicle's exterior, but I need help identifying it.” The provider can then clarify the model before preparing a quote.

Keep track of what each photograph represents. A picture you send to explain a preference is different from one the provider supplies to identify the car being reserved. Ask if it's unclear whether a photo shows a reference vehicle or your proposed allocation.

Keep the model name consistent through booking

Once you've identified the model, use its full name in the enquiry and check that the same name appears in the confirmation. Fuel type, seating and essential features should be recorded too. If the proposed car changes, check those details again for the replacement.

You can browse EliteMotion's fleet to see the models listed, then ask the team to identify the right option. If you don't know the model name, send a clear picture with the details of your trip.
