Ol Pejeta by Prado: What to Confirm Before a Self-Drive Visit
Before hiring a Prado for Ol Pejeta, check each part of the visit: travel to the conservancy, vehicle entry, accommodation and any booked experience. A confirmation for one may leave the others unresolved.
Decide what you'll handle yourself and what the conservancy or accommodation will organise. Pay particular attention to meeting points and transfers between vehicles.
Check what's included
List admission, vehicle entry, accommodation and activities. For each, note whether it's included in your package, booked separately or still unconfirmed.
Ol Pejeta's official visitor information distinguishes visitor admission from vehicle admission, describes a single-entry policy and advises guests to check whether accommodation includes entry. Read the current information for your dates before relying on a room reservation to cover the whole visit.
Ask how your package treats arrival and departure days. If you plan to go outside the boundary for lunch or return to accommodation there, check what leaving and coming back would mean for admission.
Save confirmations so you can open them offline, and make sure the lead guest's name matches the booking. Keep a contact for booking queries as well as proof of payment. A payment screenshot alone may not answer a question at arrival.
Check the details of each experience
Ol Pejeta offers conservation experiences and organised game drives. For each booking, confirm the meeting point, reporting time and expected duration, along with participant requirements and transport.
Find out whether you'll use your own vehicle, meet a guide and transfer, or park the Prado at a designated location. Ask where bags and other belongings will remain while you take part.
Make sure the confirmation answers these questions:
- Where exactly do we meet?
- How early do we need to report?
- Which participants and charges does the booking cover?
- What happens if we're delayed or conditions change?
Check those answers before booking something immediately afterwards. Two activities that look easy to combine may have meeting points or transfers that make the schedule awkward.
Verify the entrance and driving route
Ask the conservancy or accommodation which entrance suits your booking and direction of travel. Save separate pins for the gate, accommodation and activity meeting point.
Check the navigation route against those instructions. If the app suggests a different entrance or access road, verify it before following it.
Give the hire provider your proposed driving route and identify any parts covered by another vehicle. EliteMotion's terms require written permission for route changes. Conservancy admission and rental approval are separate requirements.
If you're still choosing accommodation, consider how its location will affect the day. A convenient meeting point can save repeated changes to the driving schedule.
Confirm how you'll view wildlife
Ask about the actual Prado proposed for your booking, including the seats you'll use, remaining luggage space and passengers' viewing positions. The Prado listings can help you start that discussion, but availability needs separate confirmation.
Ol Pejeta's code requires use of designated tracks and allows visitors to leave vehicles only in designated areas. It also prohibits sitting or standing on vehicle roofs. A sunroof isn't a safari pop-up roof. Plan to travel seated with seat belts fastened, and take photographs from lawful stopped positions.
Where an organised activity supplies a specialist vehicle, confirm where the hire car will stay and whether you'll need to move luggage. You may not need a larger rental to provide space or equipment already covered by the activity vehicle.
Leave room in a day visit
For a day trip, choose one main booked experience and allow time around it for admission, travel in permitted areas, a meal and the exit journey.
Work backwards from its reporting time. For an early activity, check carefully whether a same-morning drive from Nairobi leaves enough margin. Staying nearby overnight may be more practical than relying on an uninterrupted journey.
If independent viewing is the reason for your visit, you don't need to add a timed activity just to fill the day. Allow time to stop and observe, following the directions given at entry. Sightings are uncertain, so keep the visit flexible enough to enjoy even if a hoped-for animal stays out of view.
Ask about evening and morning transport
For an overnight stay, have the accommodation explain how movements are handled. Ol Pejeta publishes a general after-hours driving restriction separately from its organised night-drive offering. An evening experience booking doesn't authorise unrestricted self-driving at night.
Check whether meals, activities or transfers take you beyond the accommodation area, and who provides that transport. Confirm the latest expected arrival before setting off for the conservancy.
Allow for checkout and the drive to the exit on your final day. Leave a gap between the last game drive and your next commitment so the onward journey doesn't depend on an exact finish.
Send the full plan to the hire provider
When you contact EliteMotion, include your dates, entrance instructions, accommodation and booked experiences, plus passenger and luggage counts. Mention organised transfers too, so the quote and hire arrangements reflect when you'll actually use the Prado.
